End of Week One

Tomorrow we start to double the dose and Jane will get 1/2 of the antiviral tablet instead of 1/4.  Things of note this past week:

Wednesday (day 2)- Nothing noticeable.

Thursday (day 3)- Boy, was she on one!  In the afternoon Big Brother commented that she was in a really bad mood...and then is when it hit me that she might be being irritable from the virus die off.

Friday- We went rasberry and apple picking and there was a dirt country road that was quite hilly, and while driving on it she was screaming, as though she was very concerned and scared.  This was interesting to me, because this is my child who used to LOVE going over speed humps and laugh every time we would bump along (note: on that day in October 2010 when I took a baby autism quiz online and realized she had many symptoms, one question was about the speed humps, it has something to do with her vestibular system and how off kilter it is).  My analysis to her response to the country road is this: perhaps her vestibular system is starting to react appropriately and she is not used to feeling that way and it worries/scares her.

Saturday- Went swimming, still my little mermaid and loves the water!  Have noticed though that she is vocalizing more than usual.

Sunday- Getting ready for church, I got her beautiful pink dress she wore in the wedding last month and tights.  Laid her down for a diaper change and to put on tights and she was really letting me know that she was more interested in the pink dress.  I struggled with her, since I wanted to give her a clean diaper!, but she kept grabbing at the dress.  So, I gave in and put on the pink dress and she seemed so pleased.  She has never shown any interest in girlie things, dress up etc., so this is a new things for her.  I will add, she looked beautiful in her dress! Also, she stuffed her face during church with her apple bites (peeled and cut up organic apple), and later that night she barfed a little, and I saw lots of apple chunks...

Monday- Preparing for school to start tomorrow, I was doing some organizing and found a leotard and tutu my mom gave her for her bday and thought, why not try it on her even though she has never shown interest...she seemed very pleased to wear such a floofy thing and then I asked her to dance and with her singsongy voice she rocked back and forth!  It was so fun to see.  Then she brought over another dress up dress I found and she wanted her dad to put it on:)  People at a church bbq today commented on how she was waving hello and goodbye and how she seems to be more communicative.

Day 1

Today Jane started on Valacyclovir HCL (name according to the label on the Rx, pretty sure the brand name is Valtrex).  1/4 tablet, 3 times a day.  Did you know there is such a thing as a pill splitter?  I bought it at CVS for $4.99 and it is ingenious.  Wish I had the patent on it, it is so clever!  Instead of me fumbling with a knife and likely slicing my finger, I put the pill in and press down and viola! Pill cut in half!  Then I do it again so it is measured in quarters.

I smashed it between two spoons and sprinkled it on top of her breakfast, but she could totally taste it.  The nurses had mentioned putting it in applesauce (which she hasn't had since she was a baby...she eats an apple a day already...!).  I poured a bit of applesauce into a cup and sprinkled the pill and swirled it all around with a straw.  Added some water to make it more drinkable.  She drank it all and didn't notice the pill in the slightest.  I also think she really like the applesauce drink (she hasn't had apple juice either for over a year due to her GAPS diet and avoiding sugar, even fructose.)

Dr. Goldberg said she would experience die off from the virus, so I am starting this blog to tell our story and keep some detailed notes about Jane's symptom's and recovery.  Today didn't notice anything...we went to a spray park and she loved the water as usual:)  She also tripped as usual and ran like a crazy girl around and didn't listen to me asking her to not run (not because she is trying to be naughty, but because she really doesn't understand most of what I say).  She is my beautiful little mermaid, it will interesting if her love of the water (part of her sensory stuff) will remain as she gets better...we shall see!
