Day 1

Today Jane started on Valacyclovir HCL (name according to the label on the Rx, pretty sure the brand name is Valtrex).  1/4 tablet, 3 times a day.  Did you know there is such a thing as a pill splitter?  I bought it at CVS for $4.99 and it is ingenious.  Wish I had the patent on it, it is so clever!  Instead of me fumbling with a knife and likely slicing my finger, I put the pill in and press down and viola! Pill cut in half!  Then I do it again so it is measured in quarters.

I smashed it between two spoons and sprinkled it on top of her breakfast, but she could totally taste it.  The nurses had mentioned putting it in applesauce (which she hasn't had since she was a baby...she eats an apple a day already...!).  I poured a bit of applesauce into a cup and sprinkled the pill and swirled it all around with a straw.  Added some water to make it more drinkable.  She drank it all and didn't notice the pill in the slightest.  I also think she really like the applesauce drink (she hasn't had apple juice either for over a year due to her GAPS diet and avoiding sugar, even fructose.)

Dr. Goldberg said she would experience die off from the virus, so I am starting this blog to tell our story and keep some detailed notes about Jane's symptom's and recovery.  Today didn't notice anything...we went to a spray park and she loved the water as usual:)  She also tripped as usual and ran like a crazy girl around and didn't listen to me asking her to not run (not because she is trying to be naughty, but because she really doesn't understand most of what I say).  She is my beautiful little mermaid, it will interesting if her love of the water (part of her sensory stuff) will remain as she gets better...we shall see!
